The Gibson The Gibson is a cluster I built for north central college. It consists of 6 computational nodes each featuring 2 Athlon MP 1900+'s, a login node and a image server. It utilizies mosix, the mpich implementation of MPI, and we toyed with pvm but nothing seems to use it. One of the reasons for building it was to run my wifes thesis on it, which has to do with finding the period of 1/p where p is prime and why 487 and 56598313 are the only known numbers < 2^32 that are known to have the same period as 1/p^2. Despite my best efforts we couldnt out compute a respectable man named richter who found them before us. Anyone who wants to try there luck can download thesis.tar.gz which has a copy of the code and the perl wrapper that keeps enough processes running. |
